Maya Universe Academy Changing Lives Through Education and Agriculture

Maya Universe Academy (MUA) was established in 2011 by five Nepalese youth committed to changing the dire primary education system in the rural villages of Nepal. MUA is an organization currently comprised of three elementary schools that are changing the status quo by being the first community-run private schools in Nepal to provide free primary education. "Maya" means "love" in Nepali and this sentiment of love for the community and a passion for problem solving is part of the core beliefs of the school.

Our model is unique amongst schools in Nepal: parents volunteer two days per month on the school's farm in exchange for their children's education.Today, Maya Universe Academy operates three schools and three school farms in three different districts of Nepal. It has quadrupled its student body, increasing from 45 to 182 students in 2014. More than 1,400 farmers have benefited from Maya Farm vocational training program. We currently provide employment to 17 young professionals. More than 400 Nepali as well as foreign youth have found their way to MUA to carry out projects, help in the national development, and receive professional experience through internships and volunteering work. Since the establishment of the school in 2011, Maya Universe Academy has continued to receive recognition and awards for its success.
