Everest Warriors 2016 Spring Classic Soccer Tournament: Druk Houston & Warriors to play for title
Hosts Everest Warriors will be facing Druk Houston FC in the final of the “Everest Warriors 2016 Spring Classic Soccer Tournament†here at Houston, Texas.
In the first semifinal, Druk Houston FC defeated Deadrunners FC 2 – 1 to advance to the final of the tournament. Druk were reduced to 10 men in the 10th minute of the match after their influential playmaker Sonam Lama was given marching order by referee after his two-footed challenge. Despite reduced to 10 men, Druk took the lead in the 20th minute of the match through penalty after Deadrunners defender Shitanshu Gurung handled the ball in the box. Roshan Rai converted penalty for the Druk.
Deadrunners equalized just before the halftime through Sunil Acharya’s magnificent strike from outside the box. 10 men Druk kept pressing and searching for the winner. In the 90th minute of the match, Rosshan Rai scored his and his team’s second goal of the match as he headed home the winner from the corner kick.
In other semifinal, hosts Everest Warriors defeated South Eagles FC 3 – 2 to set the title clash with Druk Houston FC. Warriors took the lead in the 8th minute of the match. Raman Ghimire scored the first goal after the magnificent through ball by skipper Niranjan Bhattarai. Parashar Poudyal bended the corner-kick directly into the net to double the lead for the hosts Everest Warriors. But just before the lemon break, Bishal Gurung scored a goal for South Eagles. After the break; South Eagle kept searching for the equalizer and finally got in the 75th minute as Bikram Khadka scored to make the score 2 – 2. Both teams kept looking for the winner in the last minutes of the match. In the 88th minute of the match, South Eagles defender handled ball in the box and referee pointed to the spot which was converted by Rohit Raj Khanal to take Everest Warriors to the final of the tournament.
Everest HTown warriors, one of the active Nepalese community sports club based in Houston is organizing the tournament. Six teams; Deadrunners FC, South Eagles FC, Chandra Surya FC, Druk Houston FC, Three Star Houston and hosts Everest Warriors are participating in the first edition of the Spring Classic Knockout Soccer Tournament.
Established in 2014, Everest HTown Warriors is a Houston based Nepalese Community sports club. Currently they have soccer, basketball, volleyball and cricket teams. They organize Dashain Cup (5v5 Soccer tournament) and Spring Classic Knockout Soccer tournament every year.
