As we all know, mother and motherland are greater than heaven.

Nepal, my motherland, is truly a paradise. Being landlocked in between two of the largest countries of the world, it still has its name known around the world because of the specialities it holds. It is a small country with lots of natural, cultural, and religious resources. One truly doesn't need a reason to love his/her motherland, but Nepal truly does contain everything which makes us love it even more. As a patriot, I can proudly say that I love my country more than anything else in the world.

Nepal is a developing country with huge amount of strengths and flaws. It is one of the richest countries with bio-diversity. Basically, it's a diversed country with multi-cultures, multi-languages, multi-religions, multi-castes and natural diversity. All the people and the society within our country loves to live together. Even after being diversed from each other, their love for each other never goes away. That makes Nepal even more unique than any other country of the world.

Mechi, on the east; Mahakali, on the west; Himalayas, on the north; and Terai, on the south  makes up Nepal. The highest peak of the world Mt. Everest lies in Nepal, and there are also other 7 out of the rest 13 highest peaks. Not only mountains but lakes, forests, mountain ranges, national parks, land structures, rivers, and many other natural resources have been blessed in our country. People from all around the world go there for trekking, moutaineering, paragliding, boating, rafting, and not-to-forget bunji-jumping. Nepal has been attracting lots of tourists lately which is helping to increase our economy.

Not only naturally, but culturally, historically, and religiously too, there are lots of places and resources that attracts Nepali within the country, and also foreigners. Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha: The Light of Asia, lies in Nepal. Nepal is a country where Buddhism, Hinduism, and Kiratism co-exist together. It's a country where people live in different life styles with having different values of their culture. Historic regions like Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur contain beautiful heritages with it's own importance. Temples, gumbas, stupas, durbars, and holy lands with their rare values make our country very unique from other.

Moreover, the cuisines and the costumes of my country are out of the world. Guniyo-choli, Dhaka-topi, and Daura-suruwal are very unique and represent my country very well. The western dresses, and cultures can never beat the culture and tradition of my motherland. Dal-bhat, the typical Nepali food, is one of the best foods for me. Pizza, burger, and french fries willl never be able to beat the taste of it. All of these small but valuable things are in Nepal. Even though we live far, we've been celebrating all the festivals and following all the traditions that our fore-fathers have taught us. No matter where we are, and what we are doing, there's not a day when we don't think about Nepal because even a memory from there refreshes us.

I'm living very far from Nepal right now, but that doesn't decrease the love for my country. I'm a daughter of un-defeated Gurkhas, and I will never ever forget the love that Nepal has given to me. Time brought me here, and there will come another time when I will be able to go back and help my country to grow a little. With having all those resources, it's lacking manpower because youths are being forced to come abroad to have a good life with lots of employment opportunities. The political leaders are being really dumb with the decisions they are taking for the development of Nepal, but I hope there will come a day when we all will be presenting a new and developed Nepal.

In the end, no matter where a Nepali lives, the love for his motherland will never go away from him. The fragnance of the Nepali soil cannot be forgotten easily. Yes, I love Nepal and there's no doubt on that. If we hear something bad going in Nepal, that gives us chills because we want all the Nepalese around the world to be safe, as well as the country to be safe. The next time we visit Nepal, we want change; not a negative one, but a positive one. We want to see our country developing. Patriotism never goes away from one's heart. WE LOVE NEPAL, ALWAYS AND FOREVER!

“The great loss by nature,
Destroyed by creature,
What happened in Nepal?
Something that cannot undo
Be unite, help each other
That’s all we can do.

25th of April, 2015
The tragedy happened,
That is the date we
Remember again and again.
Thousands are injured
Thousands were killed,
All the lives are compelled to stay
In the open field.
People lost their beloved ones
lost their houses
Only the caused by this earthquake.

There are not many survivors
Many of our loved one have praised
But, we have also suffered a pain that can’t be healed.
Hope, not to be happened again
People not to be suffered by this sorrow
And not to be killed.

My heartiest prayers and best wishes
For all the survivors.

God bless our beautiful Nepal!”
In April of 2015, I wrote this poem expressing my heartfelt sympathies to my parents’ country, Nepal and its people. Where, I have spent my early childhood (3 to 6 years of my age) in Kathmandu. I have lots of good memories still in my mind.

Now, I wanted to share how I felt about the catastrophic earthquake that struck my beloved country of Himalaya. I’m really curious on how people are doing there. It hurts me memorizing that my family members who live in Nepal and all the other citizens of different parts of the country were either injured, homeless or killed by the heave earthquake. Most of the traditional heritage and individual built-up property were collapsed in a minute. All the people no matter billionaires or penniless were in the same condition in the streets. They all were in the tent on the open ground. It shows, by nature the people have the same position and materialistic status in the society has been made by human itself.

I also feel hurt because of knowing that some people lost their family members due to that disaster and I’m sure they are devastated. Most of the constructions are damaged, roads are cracked and mentally the people are sick and shocked. Everywhere it seems fear and panic situation. After the main earthquake, there were many aftershocks daily or weekly for long time and still it’s going on which made people in fear. I’m planning to go to Nepal in my summer vacation this year; I don’t know how the situation is. I’m thinking how the lives of people would have been displaced, how they are suffering from so many scarcities and pain? It is just I can imagine.

But, the good thing we found in this situation is solidarity among people. Lots of helping hands became ready with money, willingness and keen interest to help people at this time. I saw here, my dad and his friends worked hard to help and still helping the people of affected area in Nepal by raising funds and sending money to them. And also the Nepalese community around the world prays for the better life and peace of homeless and injured individuals.

I’m sure everyone in Nepal is working really hard to rebuild all the buildings and houses that were destroyed and I’m sure there will be light again. We love our origin, we love our culture, heritage and we love Nepal.

Nepal: A Place to Love- Rewa Basnet

Lot’s of places have many flashy materialistic things to try and get attention, but Nepal doesn’t need any of it. It’s not a place  that is just about the new trends it’s somewhere that can be undeniably interesting just by being what it is. Even though it’s a small country it’s still one of the most fascinating. Because it’s an easy place to get around, has an infinitely fascinating culture and has different points of interest, Nepal is one of the places I love.

To start, Nepal is a very easy place to get around. While I was in Kathmandu, more specifically in Jawalakhel, I was a short walk away from shops where I could get anything I needed and different members of my family who lived in the area. I adapted quickly and easily found places that I liked going. For example, my family and I would go from my Uncle’s house to my Aunt’s shop that was just down the street and then to my cousin's house that was a short walk away. Everything was so close and easily accessible for me ,even though I hadn’t spent much time there. Then there was Bhaisepati, where again many members of my family were in a close area so I could always visit them. It was just always nice to know that when I was in these areas I could find my way around.

Next, Nepal has an incredible culture and history that I always found extremely fascinating. For example, Lumbini, Nepal was the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama or Buddha. The founder of Nepal’s second largest religion Buddhism. Also, in Nepal, most people speak Nepali, a language derived from Sanskrit. And on top of that, the culture in Nepal has many symbols from Hindu and Buddhist origins which go back in Nepal more than two millennia. An example of this is the Hindu swastika and Siva’s Trident. Another part of Nepali culture that it has a rich history in  the arts. The literature dates back only to the nineteenth century with Bhanubhakta Acharya's piece of the Hindu epic, Ramayana that is still told. A lot of Nepal’s graphic art is religious. Many Newari artist creates statues of both Hindu and Buddhist leaders as well as carefully painted tangkas that represent Buddhist cosmology.

Another part of the culture is the festivals like Dashain and Tihar. Dashain is the longest and most auspicious holiday in the Nepali calendar, it is not only celebrated in Nepal but by many Nepali communities in America. Tihar often known as Diwali is also celebrated in Nepal. In general, Tihar a festival of lights and many make designs on the floor out of rice, colored sand, or flower petals called rangoli. These are meant to be sacred welcoming areas for Goddesses and Gods. All of this shows Nepal’s vast culture and history that adds to why it’s an amazing place.

Lastly, Nepal has lots of different destinations  of interest that add to its appeal. A lot of these places have a lot of historical and religious meaning to them, such as Boudhanath, a stupa in Kathmandu that is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also in Kathmandu, is Durbar Square which is in front of an ancient royal palace of the old Kathmandu Kingdom. This is one of the three Durbar Squares and another UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These are two of the most historical places that hold a lot of importance in Nepal’s culture. These are all places that add to why Nepal is an amazing place. Then there is the place that Nepal is the most known for, Mount Everest. It stands at 29,029 feet (8,848 meters) it is the world’s tallest mountain. These are some of the most interesting places in Nepal that add to it’s appeal.

So it’s not about how glamorous a place is it’s about how much it has to offer. That’s what makes it a place to love and Nepal has so much to offer. Because of the points of interest, how easy it is to get around, and the rich history and culture, Nepal is a place I love.

Why I love my country Nepal--Prasanna Karki

Nepal is a wonderful country with breathtaking sights to view. It is a country filled with peace, vigilance, and love. The people of Nepal take great pride in their country, I know this because I myself am from this sumptuous country that I am proud to call my home. The last time I visited my “home” was when I was 7, I would absolutely love to visit again and hope to.

Although the earthquake during April of 2015 left horrendous conditions and killed tons of innocent people, we became braver and kept on going. We still rose up and kept fighting for our country and refused to give up. This shows the courage and ambition that Nepal’s people have. But, sadly that wasn’t the final earthquake that would befall, plenty more earthquakes occurred and although they weren’t as vast as the first one the outcome was still atrocious. At this point everyone was worried Nepal was completely going to demolish. But, thankfully our people still wouldn’t give up and this astonished a lot of people. Obviously, that doesn’t fix everything but it made it a lot less difficult and the optimism that everyone spread just made the whole situation a lot less worrying.

Of course I couldn’t forget the grand attractions that Nepal holds such as, Boudhanath, a stupa that is a very popular tourist site and was built after Buddha himself. Another prominent site is Bhaktapur Square which is filled with more temples and spectacular statues, Bhaktapur has tons of monkeys jumping around making it easy to spot them and possesses the highest pagoda in Nepal since it is five stories high. Now let’s not forget the most colossal attraction in our country, which is the great and mighty Mount Everest. Mount Everest is detected between Nepal and Tibet, it has an elevation of 29,029 and it’s mountain range is in the Himalayas. Nepal is very pleased to say we have the most elevated mountain in all of Earth, I hope someday I get to go to the very top of Mount Everest so I can finally say I’ve done it.

So now you know the splendid tourist sites that Nepal holds, well what else is so great about Nepal? Nepal has lovely holidays such as, Holi which is a celebration filled with laughter and colors. Another holiday is, Dashain which transpires in Autumn and is a very fun holiday to savor with family and friends. Tihaar is also another Nepalese holiday that also is celebrated during fall. We also have Teej in which we show we are participating in by sporting in the color red. Last but not least we can’t forget to recall Nepali new year, in Nepali new year there are celebrations throughout the world by hosting programs to show the talent that the people of Nepal hold. But, that’s not the only way we Nepalese celebrate new year’s we celebrate with family and spread felicity, laughter, and pleasure. Those are the sublime Nepali holidays that I grew to love.

Nepal not only holds magnificent world tourist sites but it also possesses stouthearted people, and glorious holiday’s. But we can’t forget the community of Nepal, in which all of us Nepalese are involved in. This community is a safe haven where everyone cares about each other, and where we are all constantly making sure everyone is doing okay. I am so lucky to be apart of a community like this and be reminded that there are people I can always go to. I am so proud to call Nepal a place that I was born in, a place that is full of family members and relatives, and a place that is full of prosperity and courage. I can’t list all the reasons I love my country on a piece of paper because that list would be tremendous and infinite but these are some of the main points why I love and appreciate my country.

Nepal is a small strip of land wedged between two enormous countries but the culture and beauty packed into that small place is tremendous. Many people might forget or not even realize it’s existence, but the people of Nepal—no matter how far we stray—will always love and defend our country. From the holy places, the cities, to the villages, Nepal is beautiful. Of course we acknowledge the problems, but we must also focus on the various positives that make us miss our country. I spent a short time in Nepal, but I still learned a lot about the culture from my family in America. Along with many others, we celebrate the festivals and holidays in Nepal and attract interest from multiple non Nepali people around us. It makes me happy when I see a non Nepali person at our functions. I like that we are attracting people and educating them about our beautiful country. Though we celebrate, it is not the same as experiencing it in Nepal with all our family and friends. The thing I am most in touch with from Nepal is probably the food. We are a different culture from most of America and our food is unique. The smell of Nepali food is distinctive and delectable.. It’s so much more mouthwatering than the food we normally find in America. It is healthy and delicious.

I am learning to make the many delicious dishes that I enjoy at home so I can stay in contact with my culture wherever I go. I may not be able to speak perfectly, but I enjoy listening to people speak. Our national language is so beautiful and unique. I am sad to admit that I cannot write or read Nepali that well. When I was younger, my mother read to me from an old Nepali short story book. The interesting stories and legends that have been passed down through numerous generations are incredible to listen to late at night. In the evenings, my family and I sometimes watch a Nepali movie together. I love the beautiful music and the scenery that I get to experience so far away from home. When I watch Nepali movies, I am pulled to the clothing and adornments that the people wear. The beautiful dresses and jewelry is something we don’t have a strong access to. We can order online and try to hunt down some stores, but it is not the same as actually buying and wearing them in Nepal. I am a modern girl but I would love to wear the traditional clothing of Nepal. Nepal is a beautiful country that is not yet completely urban. There are still extensive rice fields and grasslands where nature is teeming. The beautiful flowers, wildlife and, of course, our mountain range, Nepal is the top of the world. Half a world away, we are almost the farthest distance from our county that we can be, but our affection is still strong. So far way from our home, the diverse cultures of Nepal come together and connect. We have built our own community. Even though Nepali people may not be a strong majority or minority of Colorado, we wear the love for our country proudly. America is a big place with countless cultures and customs, but we will never lose or forget ours.

I stand looking at my brothers and sisters, their different gleaming eyes all envisioning the same thing. They proudly sing the national anthem, as they recite the words “Woven from hundreds of flowers, we are one garland; that is Nepal.” To me, Nepal is one of the most diverse places on this earth. There are so many different ethnicities, languages, and lifestyles in Nepal, that every single person is unique in their own way. With that being said, Nepalese people also share many traits as well and are probably the most hardworking, accepting, and peaceful humans on earth as well. Being a Nepalese youth and living in another country is not easy and comes with many hardships. In this essay we will talk about why we are in America, then we will move onto the hardships of being a Nepalese youth and finally as we finish off we will talk about purpose as a Nepalese youth.

I personally was not born in America and that is also the case of most of the Nepalese youth living abroad. However, whether a Nepalese youth was born here or not, all of the youth face similar challenges. For some, it's having to learn English. For others, it’s not forgetting Nepali. For most, it’s having to work hard, take care of family members, learn to cook, help parents after a long day of work, and learning to stand strong in modern society. The reason we as Nepalese youth are here today is because our parents wanted a better future for us. They did not want us to be exposed to disease, human trafficking, child abuse or any other of the horrors that plague Nepal. We are not just born to die, every life has a purpose but for many it can be difficult to find. One thing is for sure though, if we are here breathing American air today; we have an advantage, and even more of a reason to work hard. We must work not only for ourselves but also our siblings, our friends, our enemies, and every other person prevalent in our lives.

If a Nepalese youth grows up in a not very diverse community, prejudice will not be a new word to them. Growing up, I was constantly made fun of for the way I dressed, acted, and spoke. However, I always remained proud of my heritage and always adoringly talked about Nepal. Nepalese youth have grown up facing ignorance, xenophobia, racism, and so much more, However, even after being put down because of their eye shape, their skin color, their accent and other things they cannot control, they still are proud of who they are everyday. As of right now, there is even more of a racial tension as America fights with itself over police brutality and elections. This causes hardships for Nepalese youth, but also shows them perseverance and hard work gets them places.

Purpose as Nepalese youth can be difficult to find. Some join the police force in Nepal. Some become a Navy Seal for America. Some become doctors, some engineers, but most, don’t really know what they want to do. They love Nepal, but they are conflicted because they need to make a future for themselves as well. However, although it is important to succeed and have a steady source of income there should also be more diversity in careers and life choices. It is easier to just blindly follow what everyone else is doing, but it is much less meaningful. Anyone can become what they want, but not everyone can become a singer, a dancer, an artist, a teacher, or anything that requires hard work and talent. We each are unique and talented in our own ways, and it is our job to use those talents to help show that we love Nepal.

In conclusion, being a Nepalese youth in America is very hard; but so many of us are persevering and that just goes to show how much we love and care for Nepal. We go through many hardships and troubles, but at the end of the day it's okay, because we can laugh together, sing “wari jamuna”, and be proud of who we are. We are from the land where the mountains poke the atmosphere, the animals dance in the sun, and the kids play with rubber bands. We are the home to Mount Everest, Gautama Buddha, and the unstoppable Gurkhas. We are from the land of peace, hope, and passion. And as we deal with natural disasters and unstable governments, let us never forget we are the next generation, the one that loves Nepal the most, and we are here to change the world.

Subject: Why We Love Nepal

===============================

A country that brings people together and a country that gives you a wonderful time is a perfect country. A superb country that many will enjoy especially if you have lived there. The country gave me magnificent memories and started off my life. With illustrious sites and a very cultural country, Nepal is a delightful country to visit.

Nepal has many wonderful places to visit and going anywhere was interesting. Even if I went to a village that I have never heard of or a village that I’ve gone to many times I would always find new things. I would never be satisfied because there were many places I could explore and find out more about the world and Nepal. Spotting these things and visualizing the environment let me distinguish the places compared to Nepal and to the world. I grew up exploring with my friends and always enjoyed everything.

Mount Everest is one of the most toured sites around the world! This is just another popular and destined site around the world and just one of the amazing sites and places in Nepal. People come from everywhere around the globe to witness and climb Mt. Everest but also for the other monuments in the country. Such as Pashupatinath and other sites were visited by many tourists. When the earthquake hit 1 years ago people in Nepal stood up and helped each other to fix their country. This is another great thing about Nepal when everyone helps each other and stands up as a country.

Growing up in Nepal was also a fortunate thing for me. The people and the environment in Nepal let me grow up and understand life. I would go to different places with my family and friends and I would learn more and more each day. Nepal holds great things and I learned those great things because I could comprehend lots of things from a very young age which has led me to this very day to understand and to aspire to keep learning. Nepal let me learn a majority of the things I know today about life because I grew up in a great place.

Another thing Nepal is very well known for is the way the culture is represented throughout the country. Anywhere you go you can see the culture appear. The clothes that are worn are sari, chaubanti cholo, and many more for the women. Men wear daura suruwal topi the most. The food that are eaten for many religious and normal holidays include rice (dal bhat) which is one of the national foods, vegetables, gundruk, dhindo and much much more. These foods are ones that I certainly enjoy and are ones people all around the world enjoy as well.

Nepal is a country that has been the home of more than forty million people. The country is still growing which means that the country will continue to work harder and become better. Nepal has held many of my great memories and a country that has seemed to amaze many different people. These reasons are big factors of why Nepal is a great country and how the country is growing each day and becoming better.
